Caritas Internationalis continues to feel the heat from the Vatican for what many have identified as its shift away from its roots in authentic Catholic moral and social teaching, and towards a leftist political advocacy model.
The Pope stressed that the Holy See is responsible to ensure Catholic charity groups' activities are "transparent" and "completely in accord with the Apostolic See."
While some have argued for a hands-off approach of fostering good works undertaken even by agencies at odds with the Church to end poverty and oppression, the Cardinal took a different view.
The UK Catholic weekly The Tablet reports today that the Vatican has cancelled the speaking engagement of Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, former head of the Dominican order, at the upcoming general assembly of Caritas Internationalis.
