Beijing recognizes Vatican-appointed bishop ahead of expected renewal of China-Vatican deal
The Holy See announced that Bishop Melchior Shin Hongzhen has been recognized by the Chinese Communist Party government as ordinary of the Diocese of Tianjin, in what may be a sign that the Vatican’s China deal may be renewed for a third time this year.
