The groups have taken the government to task for attempting to equate natural marriage with so-called gay “marriage” and civil unions, even though marriage is protected in the Constitution.
The Cardinal Archbishop Primate of Peru has denounced the intentions of Peruvian presidential candidates to give legal recognition to unions between homosexuals.
"We appreciate and respect the rule of law and the role of courts in our society, especially in regards to the Charter, and so we've made our decision," he said.
