The bills would ban late-term abortions, exclude Ohio from abortion coverage in the new federal health care law, and strengthen the state’s parental consent law.
Pro-lifers hailed the ruling as a victory for the right to life in the United States. "Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was the most pro-abortion piece of legislation in American history, and it unconstitutionally mandated that all Americans purchase health care," said Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life.
While supporting the Protect Life Act, CHA President and CEO Sr. Carol Keehan has continued to insist that the health law in its current form would not fund abortion.
U.S. Senator Jim DeMint introduced the repeal bill on Wednesday, joined by 35 co-sponsors. A Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday found 55 percent of eligible voters favoring repeal.
"It was very difficult for me, what I went through with the health care bill. But there was never any question for me what I was going to do," Lipinski said.
