While the survey unfortunately found that 77% of Canadians support the state's MAiD euthanasia program, it also found that only 42% want to expand it to allow for the killing of people suffering solely from mental illness.

Disability advocate Mitchell Tremblay said people are choosing suicide ‘because it has become one of the only ways to escape poverty, homelessness, bad treatment from landlords, and the feeling that the government doesn’t care about them.’
