Despite the heavy blow delivered to Notre Dame's pro-life reputation when it welcomed President Barack Obama to campus, there are still major pro-life initiatives on campus that are flourishing, perhaps more so than at any other university in the United States.
Fr. Jenkins said that he "still stand[s] by that decision" to invite Obama, but criticized the mandate that will require most Catholic institutions to pay for all forms of contraception, including abortifacient drugs.
The university honored a health organization that proudly promotes condoms and emergency contraception. The following day, the pro-life fund associated with the university, The Notre Dame Fund to Protect Human Life, issued an award to a top pro-life leader.
