The charges were withdrawn by the Crown prosecutor after counsel for Mr. Chadli argued there was excessive delay in his case, which breached his right to be tried within a reasonable time as guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The government issued a warning that 'all travellers must still provide a quarantine plan and be prepared to quarantine in case it is determined at the border that they do not meet the necessary requirements.'
The woman had a negative COVID test result, but was delayed in crossing into Canada, and thus ordered to have another test or stay in a quarantine hotel.
