'The character assassination and uncharitable venom being cast upon a bishop merely defending the doctrines of his religion is appalling and repugnant,' says the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy.
'At the core of the religion is love, acceptance, respect and dignity,' said one senior student. 'Whatever the archbishop is doing is completely contrary to that.'
The University permitted the Hear Our Voices event to take place on campus even though it was apparently aware that 'both sides of the debate were not going to be represented.'
