The Synod on Synodality has been mired in scandal, including over dissident materials on the Synod website and pro-LGBT comments by Synod leaders described as ‘heresy.’
The pro-LGBT group touted Sr. Nathalie Becquart's appearance as bringing 'a Vatican official into conversation with LGBTQ people and their allies as part of the synodal process.'
Cardinal Grech also appeared to shrug off concerns about the ‘schism’ of Germany’s Synodal Way, calling it just another ‘synodal experience on a national level.’
The preparatory documents for the two-year synod emphasize the themes of ‘listening’ and promote a ‘decisive’ concept of self-understanding for the Church, which will be based on the views of Catholics, including Catholics who no longer practice the faith, and non-Catholics alike.
‘[T]he ordinary way of living ecclesial communion … requires circularity, reciprocity, journeying together with respect to the various functions of the People of God,’ claimed the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.
