The new policy makes clear that students are to be referred to by the proper pronouns and that children who participate in gender-segregated sports and extracurricular activities must take part in the ones that align with their sex.
High school student John Ott, who organized the walk-out, told Fox on Monday that the protest took place because 'kids were upset' and they wanted to 'protect' girls who 'didn’t want men in their bathrooms.'
'We believe that throughout this ordeal LCPS [Loudon County Public Schools] administrators were looking out for their own interests instead of the best interests of LCPS,” the report states.
The move came after 22 states sued the Biden administration over its plan to block religious schools from receiving free lunch funds if they rejected LGBT ideology.
'There needs to be awareness of the unique needs of the gender variant student,' read the policy, while also saying the 'popular rhetoric around gender variance' is different to the 'Christian understanding.'
