Despite the open category, 'transgender' men can still compete against women, according to guidelines published July 5, if they have not undergone male puberty or have had it 'suppressed beginning at Tanner Stage 2 or before age 12.'
Abby Carr, who competed against William 'Lia' Thomas in 2022, argued that while trying to save transgender sports the administration is 'discriminating against women.'
The University of Pennsylvania's athletic department told female swimmers, 'Don't talk to the media. You will regret it,' after allowing Thomas to compete on the women's team, Paula Scanlan said.
'They're frightened of losing friends. They're frightened of being kicked off their teams. They're frightened of being told by their universities that they're transphobic and hateful.'
