(LifeSiteNews) — A national pro-life medical group voiced objection to a liberal association’s recommitment to the practice of child “sex changes,” citing research that it causes harm to children and encouraging a review of available evidence.

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) recently responded to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) reiterated stance on medical intervention for gender-confused minors, maintaining that the trend is abusive but agreeing with the liberal organization on its call for a systematic review of data showing the impact of the so-called treatments.

The AAP, notorious for its support of leftist activism such as the irreversible use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for gender-confused youth, doubled down on its stance last week after its board of directors voted to maintain its initial support dating to 2018. Additionally, the group acknowledged that increasing restrictions on such actions from various state leaders provides grounds for a systematic review of available evidence to understand the impact of the drugs and surgeries.

“ACPeds is disappointed that the AAP has reaffirmed its support for transgender [sic] interventions on minors,” the conservative organization said in a press release. “However, we are encouraged that the AAP is open to re-evaluating its position.”

The group emphasized the “lack of any significant clinical evidence” as well as “long-term positive outcomes for children treated with puberty blocking drugs, sex hormones and transgender [sic] interventions.” On the contrary, ACPeds argued that the left-wing organization “must take into account the mounting scientific evidence against transgender [sic] interventions on minors which has led some countries, including the U.K., Finland, and Sweden, to pull back their support for such interventions.”

“It is a known fact that gender dysphoria resolves in most minors who are allowed to go through puberty. We reaffirm our position that these interventions are scientifically unproven and amount to child abuse.”

In the past few years, numerous medical organizations around the globe have issued warnings against the use of such interventions, citing danger to children’s mental and physical health. The French Academy of Medicine specifically cautioned against the use of puberty blockers in 2022, noting that the ongoing issue of gender confusion among young people is “epidemic-like.” Similarly, Sweden, Finland and Norway have issued official warnings against puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for gender-confused youth, denouncing claims that these medical interventions are supported by scientific research.

British health officials declared that evidence supporting the use of the irreversible drugs was “not reliable.” The UK’s infamous Tavistock Clinic was also shut down after an investigation determined that children were rushed into so-called “transitions,” some with devastating results.

So far, 13 American states have completely banned child “sex changes” and four others have enacted restrictions. Four have sought to enact bans that are currently blocked in court.

Evidence shows that puberty blockers cause long-term health issues such as infertility and impaired bone growth, realities that have been admitted by many medical professionals, including the AAP. Cross-sex hormone use is also linked to suicidality and higher risk of heart attack and stroke.

ACPeds has consistently rejected claims from mainstream medical associations that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are “safe” and “necessary” for gender-confused kids, calling the practice “child abuse.” The group was also one of several to file a lawsuit demanding the removal of the “dangerous” abortion pill. Amid recent efforts to defend true health care and protect children from the moment of conception, ACPeds has fallen victim to a “malicious cyberattack.”
